An Overview of Nelsons Life
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a very important man in South Africa. He was raised by a tribe leader in his family after his father was de-throned due to a quarrel with a higher ranking chieftan. He went to law school and practiced for many years defending blacks from racial injustice and prejudice in court. Laws passed by apartheid governments in South Africa limited not only blacks rights to live in harmony with others, but contained and oppressed them in many ways, shapes, and forms. In light of this, Nelsonk and his good friend Oliver Tambo founded the Youth League, a league off of the African National Congress (ANC). This league is open to people ages 14-35 and is specifically designed to be similar to the ANC. It focusses on issues affecting the youth, though, so the youth can get behind the issues and take a stand for laws and other oppressive boundaries limiting them. One of these problems the ANC even spoke about and reinforced as to propel the idea into the view of the public for all to gawk at. Mandela would later go on to protest for the ANC, be put in jail for 27 years, and end up as the first black President of South Africa.
